Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Employment Coordinator for University Human Resources. This position is responsible for administering the temporary workforce and COLT/888 policy and contract provisions, and the processes of recruiting and selecting employees and external applicants for clerical/secretarial, laboratory, service and trade positions.

The key duties of this position are the following:

  • Manages job postings of AFSCME LOCAL 1761 (COLT), AFSCME LOCAL 888, and temporary positions.

  • Responsible for administering the temporary workforce policy and contract provision and for the review, classification, and implementation of temporary workforce requests from university departments in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.

  • Makes recommendations to hiring authorities in accordance with relevant University policies and collective bargaining agreements.

  • Provides daily interaction with applicants regarding COLT/888 employment opportunities and provides related information according to university policies and collective bargaining agreements; ensures employees clearly understand the bump/recall process and can make informed decisions and assists with resume preparation, job search and interview strategies.

  • Administers the COLT/888 Layoff process.

  • Provides project research and analytical support to the Director.

  • Performs additional duties as required.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree, preferably in Human Resources Management or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in a related field.

  • A minimum of two years’ experience in human resource management, preferably in such areas as: policy consultation and advisement, recruitment, staffing, training, and compliance with applicable federal and state employment laws, preferably in higher education and in a labor environment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must have the ability to work in a dynamic, highly sensitive environment; and have excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated track record in delivering exceptional client service; ability to navigate complex policies, contracts, and legal mandates to assist clients in achieving organization goals; ability to work well in a team environment and foster a positive, productive, and progressive work environment.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products and HRIS systems also required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a unionized environment is highly preferred.
